How to customize a dropship for Megamek
#1
I have an Overlord that I would like to customize.  Basically I have a combined arms battalion.

I am trying to customize it so that it can carry 16 mechs, 16 vehicles (light to heavy) and 4 platoons of infantry and possibly some extra cargo if there is room.

Have any of you done something like this and if so how?

Thank you and have a great day guys/gals!

Their is no Editor, but all the Dropship files are text based. If you get a good text editor like Notepad++ you can open various Dropships that have similar loads and cut and paste the details you want.

Steps
1) Make a copy of the Overload file you want to Customize and call it what you want your Overlord to be called.
2) Make a folder a in Mechfiles called Customs and keep all your blk and mtf custom files in here.
3) open the custom Overlord in Notepad++(for example) and following along with example from other dropships you should be able to figure out what does where.
4) Save the custom ship into the customs folder
5) Delete units.cache
6) Start MegaMek and make sure their are no loading errors - if so trouble shoot or post here and I'll try to look at them as quick as I can
7) Enjoy your ship

Hello Hammer,

So I can open the files in WordPad.  I can save them as: *.txt (DOS, Unicode, and regular text doc), *.docx, *.rtf, *.odt, I do not have the option to save to blk or mtf.  Is there a way I can get around that without having to pay for a program?

So far the *.txt file for my modified overlord looks like this:

For a program Notepad++ is free and what I use to edit unit files - https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

As for saving the units, just change the .txt to .blk for a Dropships. Mechs are the only unit that uses mtf files.

As for weights, MegaMek doesn't validate Dropships to the construction rules so option 1, do what ever you want Smile You could have the Overlord - Tardis style.

Or what most players do is make the according to the TableTop construction rules then convert the numbers to the blk file.

I will have to find the construction rules somewhere. Thanks Hammer!
