Help With Planetary Data
#41
Time for my (near) daily update so that this project doesn't get forgotten!

40+ planets added to the SVN (20+ more on the way tomorrow) and updated faction info and of course all of the clan invasion dates. They're all in there for the next release.

Even with (soon to be) 60+ planets, that's only 2% of the map! I still need submissions.

And thanks to all those that have submitted so far.

Here´s a batch of uninhabited systems linking the Inner Sphere to the Clan homeworlds. The ER worlds represent the Exodus Road, the shortest way from The Rock the the Pentagon Worlds (using a couple of existing systems as waypoints), and from the Pentagon Worlds to the Kerensky Cluster. The KC worlds link the different worlds of the Kerensky Cluster to each other.

The second file is a set of rough rules for creating uninhabited systems that I cobbled together, in case anyone is interested. Most stars will end up being K or M type, luminosity V, but the other types are still more frequent than in reality.

Thanks Sir Chaos, I will get these added in the next few days so there will be a travel path between the IS and the Clan home worlds. I'll likely make the faction color for NONE black so they won't be visible on the map itself but they can still be selected and MHQ will still funnel the travel through them.

<desc>3025 - The Confederation captured Buenos Aires from the Free World League during the Second Succession War, and has managed to retain control despite numerous FWL attempts to retake it. Buenos Aires is an important warm-water, agricultural planet with much of the food production in subterranean and offshore/hydroponic centres through-out the southern hemisphere. The local outer-world commercial trade centres, established by FWL entrepreneurs, still operate in Buenos Aires City. The planet is garrisoned by a permanent Sian Commonality reserve regiment augmented by numerous local militia forces.
Recently, a large island in the eastern basin has been taken over for secret tests. These tests are thought to be for the development of rotary-wing anti-Mek VTOLs.
Buenos Aires is also the home of Lieutenant Johnny Rico, Dizzy Flores, Lieutenant Carman Ibanez and Colonel Carl Jenkins.</desc>

Drozan provides five percent of the Confederation's annual food requirements through large, continuously operating, automated cultivation and processing plants. A well-developed aquafarming industry complements the terrestrial technology. A growing food synthesis industry is supported by research facilities in Drozan's northern hemisphere. At least one Warrior House battalion is stationed on the planet at all times and rotated on a monthly basis to give the impression of larger troop strength. A variety of motorised and jump-trained militia are also based on Drozan, with mechanized equipment reserves in place at all times. </desc>

Thanks for another submission! I really need to get back to adding these submissions into the SVN but I've barely had a chance to sit down at a computer the last 4-5 days (except at work). I think I'm up to 67 or so entered planets and another 50 or so ready for me to proof, edit, enter and commit to the SVN.

I just added a batch of 20-30 more planets to the SVN tonight with about 30 more waiting to be added. We're at nearly 100 planets in the SVN, soon to be nearly 130.

One request for anyone that submits data going forward, please send all info to my email: jayof9s at gmail.com. I realized after being busy the last few days that trying to keep track of planets submitted in PMs on 2 forums and posts on two forums + submissions in my email is tough to keep track of if I get busy for a few days.

I don't think I missed anything but please take a look at the spreadsheet and let me know if I either have left you off the contributors list and/or if any planets you submitted didn't make it onto my list of either in progress or completed planets.

No problems mate, many hands make for light work. Thanks for your efforts in getting all this data into the SVN.

I will email my future entries to your gmail account but I will also contiue post them here as my backup if something happens to your system and/or mine.

Regular bump/update: we're up to 177 planets with data in the SVN + several other additions.

A lot of planets with data do not have descriptions, if someone wants to work on these write ups that would be welcome. As always submissions are welcome, just remember to check the spreadsheet in the original post so you're not redoing work that is already done. The spreadsheet also lists any missing tags/details for a planet.

Please send all submissions to my email: jayof9s at gmail.com

The economy of Victoria is booming. Students that show an aptitude for engineering compete for entry to the famous Victoria Institute of Engineering. Graduates are in high demand and command large fees, a portion of which automatically go to the Victorian Exchequer.
Recently, an underground Star League-era Mek research facility was discovered. The reason the facility was originally abandoned is unknown.</desc>

The First Ward Constitution remains one of the most widely studied Exodus-era historical documents.
Many of the Ward populuce are skilled construction workers who contract out offworld in large numbers to construct roads through the most difficult terrain of neighbouring star systems. Wardian road construction methods use a material that far exceeds all other known road construction materials in terms of weather, temperature, stress resistance performance characteristics and is one of the most closely guarded industrial secrets in the Inner Sphere.
Ward's northern polar cap is the site of a Confederation observation-intelligence post.</desc>

I am just preparing to start the Tikonov Commonality but it is a bit more complicated with Faction changes, I have the FASA Liao sourcebook and have now purchased the 4th SW Atlas Vol 1 & 2. I will try to update the Faction change info to reflect the dates in these sourcebooks but I will not be able to provide any of the dates for Chaos March or FC Civ War or Jihad Faction changes (I will assume the rough dates in the MekHQ planets.xml are correct at this stage).

I also note that based on Jayof9s opening post and on the planets.xml Faction change entries for Eglin, there is no specific Faction code for the Tikonov Free Republic and that we are using "PIND" (Periphery (other)) for the Tikonov Free Republic.

Since the planetary data (usually in the handbooks, etc) is mostly separate from the faction change dates (usually in source books targeting a single engagement, 4th War Atlases for the 4th War, Crusader Clans + Jade Falcon + Wolf for clan invasion, etc) so far I've just been worrying about getting the info added and worrying about faction dates when I come across them, since referencing between 2-3 books for each planet ends up being a bit of a waste of time instead of just gathering whatever data I can from one book at a time. So far most of my planets with 'completed' data do not have full faction change details inserted.

My next project (after I completed updating the Clan Invasion faction change dates) was to going to be using the 4th War Atlases to update the faction change info from those books but I got side tracked by life and realizing how many planets in the old handbooks hadn't been submitted. So you're welcome to start submitting those, it may be easier to do it in the fashion I have so far, keeping planetary data separate from faction change data (unless they're from the same source) but whatever works best for you is fine.

Also, we currently have a faction code from just about every major and minor faction that has ever existed in battletech thanks to a submission I got. Most of them are not in use yet But the Tikonov Free Republic is TFR. The post on the front page is a bit out of date and since there are well over 100 factions now I should probably put them into a spreadsheet instead of adding them all to that post.

Thanks for the prompt response Jay.

Your approach to planetary data vs faction change data sounds much more manageable. I will go ahead with the Tikonov Commonality with just the FASA House Liao sourcebook planetary data at this stage, finish off the planetary data for the remaining Commonalities then work my way through the 4th SW faction change data for the House Liao planets, then go from there.

If you could add the updated faction codes to the spreadsheet that would be great.

I added a link to the latest factions.xml file - you can download it to look up any factions you may run into when making faction changes. All major and most minor factions should already be there. If a faction is missing let me know and I can add it.

I also added an example of the description tag <desc> and <landMass> to the original example on request.
