I believe there's a fix for this bug already in place for the next release. There are some issues with launching through MHQ currently. For now, if you have the autosave from near the end of the battle you can load that (not through MHQ though) and save the end MUL and get the salvage file and complete the scenario that way.

I guess I have angered the save/load gods as well.  Twice now I have tried to start a campaign, set it all up, saved, then reloaded, only to have MekHQ show the spash screen when loading the saved game, then just shut down.  I imagine it is something I am doing to my campaign that is messing it up... But I have no idea what that would be.

All I have done (that I can recall), is load a couple lances worth of mechs, a lance of vehicles, and a pair of aerospace fighters, added some quirks to the vehicles, then got personnel for them, as well as techs, Docs, and Admin.  Below is my log file from loading the game, which looks like it is getting a divide by 0 error for some reason.  Any hints on what I am doing wrong, so I can make sure not to do it again?  Smile

The problem is caused by:

dragoonsRatingMethod
FM: Mercenaries (rev)

Try switching to the Taharqa method for now. I already forget what the exact issue was with the FM:Mr version in 0.1.16 (its been fixed in the SVN) but it causes campaigns to be unusable. If that doesn't help, let us know. You should be able to edit the method in the campaign save file without loading it in MHQ.

Aha.  That explains it.

I had been playing with the SVN version before I started messing with this campaign, but the machine I had it on took a nosedive.  When I tried building the SVN again on a new machine it went... poorly... And I finally gave up and just loaded the newest prebuilt build. 

Awesome, thanks for the super fast response. 

That being said, is there much of a guide out there that I am missing for loading the SVN versions of MekHQ?  I went through the one for Megamek and can get it to work, and I got MekHQ to work at one point, but now I am obviously missing something.  I got Eclipse and Sub loaded, can get the SVN checked out, but after that I am lost.  On Megamek you had to add some stuff to the build path to get it to go, but MekHQ isn't laid out the same way, and I haven't found any topic that really gives a good rundown of what I am missing.

Sometimes you will need to do additional steps like updating megamek (the version included with MHQ) to get a working SVN build due to dependencies. I.e. some changes require modifying the MM SVN as well as the MHQ SVN but we don't always update the MM.jar and associated files included with MHQ until we're ready to put out a release. Though I make no assurances that the issue you're having with getting a working SVN build is related to that right now.

I corrected the issue by creating a bat file for java -Xms64m -Xmx512m -jar MekHQ.jar.  Thank you all anyway and keep up the great work.

Just got an NPE, I have been using ralgith's latest SVN, if that helps at all.

Lot of technical stuff in the post(s) above and I am not a technical guy so it doesnt really mean much to me.

here is my issue

2 different machines
1 is Win XP
1 Is Win 7

Both have the same version of java installed
Both have the same version of MekHQ installed.

Both work to run, set up campaign, run thru a mission and a scenario and then do any salvage / repairs, healing whatever. When I go to SAVE the campaign, XP system does fine and I can load and play from where I left off. Win 7 system will not save. Just gives me a little window apologizing for the inconvenience and says it couldnt save.

As far as i can tell, the settings for both games on both machines are the same, I have not used any proto stuff, or created any new items, infact, I just try to use the basic items, like WolfHound Wlf 1a and Hunchback 4G.

Any help?

Try to save your campaign and when you get the error, post your Mekhqlog.txt file from the logs folder.

Could it possibly be a permissions issue on the Win7 machine?

Dont think so. Installed in its own folder in the Programs x86 folder.
No to the trying to save over an old save (I would think). havent been able to one much less save over it.
When I save on the XP machine, I give them each a new name like East, West and would do the same in Win 7 IF I could.

Will post the log thing you asked for when i get my Win 7 lappy back. Its busy playing DJ, lol.

Ok, well after my post above about my laptop being out on business, my bud brought it back moments after.

The problem is the ONLY file in my logs folder is a 0kb file called timestamp. there is no Mekhqlog.txt or anything other than what I listed.

As for campaign files or mul files, only what came with it as I unzipped it, Foxteeth.cpnx well thats it

EDIT I just ran thru the prelims of setting up a new campaign, selecting all the options, getting contract, selecting planet, launch, travel to and all ready to start 1st scenario. I tried to save and got the Oops sorry.... message.
I checked the logs folder AFTER closing program. nothing there but what i mentioned above. I tried to save as mycampaign (default) and also as a name I created. Nothing there.

ideas?

Have you tried saving to a different folder?  If you haven't, try saving into your Documents folder.

Yeah, try installing else where (Docs as suggested), for some reason W7 is pretty iffy about permissions and what it will let programs do in the Programs x86 folder. I was thinking it was only for attempting to save over older files but it may limit programs from creating new files if they don't meet some criteria - I'm not sure. I use W7 but I don't really install anything to that folder due to other reasons.

Normally MHQ should automatically be creating a mekhqlog.txt even if all you do is load up MekHQ and close it. So clearly it is being prevented from even doing that.

Thought about that last night after heading to bed.
I will (sometime today or tomorrow, try to put the prog in a different folder outside of Program or Programs x86 and see if that will solve it.

I do seem to remember 'other programs' not wanting to save any info to those folders (or sub folders within those)
Like Netzilla said it could be a permissions issue with Win7. It may be that simple, just move outside of either of those 2. I will post results either way and thanx for the help.

Yep that was it. moved the folder out of programs or programsx86 and just simply  put it in C drive. works like a charm
